We are the first online-magazine to present new and exclusive screenshots of the real-time strategy game Command & Conquer 4, whose many innovations we have also examined in our preview in GameStar magazine 09/2009 (now available). In our screenshot analysis, we'll examine the different units and structures of GDI and Nod in detail.

GDI raiders attack a base of the Brotherhood of Nod, which is defended by defensive towers. GDI raiders attack a base of the Brotherhood of Nod, which is defended by defensive towers.

Titan Titan

The Titan-Mech is well known by C&C veterans, because it was also available in the second part of the series, Tiberian Sun, being the standard pounder of the world police. And in Kane's Wrath, the add-on to C&C: Tiberium Wars, the »Steel Talons« faction of GDI led the Mech into battle. In Command & Conquer 4 it's likely that the Titan is only available to the offensive player class. GDI and Nod are divided into three sub-divisions: attacker, defender and supporter.

Sandstorm Sandstorm

The Sandstorm rocket launcher is also well known from Tiberian Sun. We assume that this hovering tank will be able to glide above rivers in Command & Conquer 4, too, which makes it ideal for surprise attacks. Due to his thin armor he should not get too close to the enemy, though.

Wolf Wolf

Using his double machine-gun, the Wolf tank prefers to finish off infantry. Armored enemies and buildings are hardly damaged by his fire. So it's likely that the Wolf should be available for low-level players. In C&C 4 each player class gathers experience when opponents are dealt with and then gains access to more powerful units and new upgrades.

Nod-Basis Nod-Basis

Electronic Arts has taken base building out of Command & Conquer, instead each faction own a mobile base, the so-called Crawler. It can convert itself into a factory anywhere and produce units, which need to be paid for. When this Nod-base has finished a new unit, the metal dome to the left opens and the unit ascends to the battlefield on some kind of elevator.

Defensive towers Defensive towers

The only buildings you are allowed to raise yourself are defensive towers and even they can only be used by the defensive player class. There are different types. Here it's a gun against vehicles (above) and a rocket launcher (below). Both can be retracted into the ground to lure opponents into ambushes. When defensive Nod players gain experience and levels, they can also unlock the Obelisk of Light, the well-known and powerful laser tower of the Brotherhood.
